Atiba Borde

From doodles to design – Atiba Borde’s trajectory into the world of carnival costume design was anything but typical.

A biochemist by profession, Atiba’s meeting notes from work would often be adorned with sketches of characters from the world inside his head – each of them outfitted in a custom ensemble.

He took the chance in posting those drawings on his Instagram and The Lost Tribe’s Creative Director, Valmiki Maharaj, after a chance meeting in Frankie’s, invited him to submit a design to the band for 2018’s presentation of Seven.

Since then, he’s been gracing The Lost Tribe masqueraders with edgy, fashion-forward costume options every year.

Atiba describes his style as ‘urban’ and ‘unapologetic’ and he frequently incorporates fashion and streetwear elements into his designs.

For Atiba, The Lost Tribe’s collective approach to design has challenged him and made him a stronger designer through collaboration and sharing of ideas and knowledge.
His dream is to one day design an entire show – dressing a full cast of characters, real or fictional, in his designs.
