The Lost Tribe

Peter Elias & Jeneile McCarthy

Peter Elias and Jeneile McCarthy-Sinanan joined the Lost Tribe for its 2019 presentation of Taj but the duo collectively have been part of Trinidad and Tobago’s fashion elite for decades and Peter has been designing and producing costumes since 2002.

Peter is a highly sought-after designer and stylist and has worked with some of the region’s biggest personalities and politicians, while Jeneile was for years the principal model and muse for some of the country’s most prolific designers. She then pivoted her career and became one of the region’s highly regarded jewellers and artisans, known for her intricate and detailed handcrafted work. Both of their creations collectively and individually have shown on regional and international platforms to much critical acclaim.

As a design duo, their aesthetics combine perfectly when creating their pieces for Lost Tribe. Their philosophy is always to be respectful of the masqueraders, be true to the band’s theme and create a costume that is memorable, fashionable and sustainable. For them, every costume must have distinctive elements that can be reused, restyled and repurposed into the masquerader’s daily wardrobe as statement pieces. Heading into their third presentation with The Lost Tribe the duo is confident that they have and will continue to achieve that self-imposed mandate.

Beyond that, the team is also cognisant of the philosophy of the marketing section (Oye Promotions) with whom they have a collaboration. The philosophy that carnival is an emotion in motion so whatever the design, movement is key so that the masqueraders can “DANCE DEY MAS”
